Messi in Afghanistan

This image is of a five year old boy named Murtaza Ahmadi. Murtaza is from the province of Ghazni in Afghanistan. He was pictured with his makeshift Messi shirt made out of a plastic bag and became an internet sensation. Eventually, UNICEF helped to get a real shirt signed by Lionel Messi to the little boy.
This is an example of the good globalization can do. Without globalization, how would a five year old from Afghanistan hear about a Argentinian soccer player who plays in Spain? I think Messi is a figure of hope for the boy and soccer gives him something to enjoy when life is hard in Afghanistan.
